It's the height of Summer and in case you're a vintage fan and you're wondering what was trendy in the early '50s, here's a picture of a Schiaparelli design taken from an Italian magazine from 1951.
The Summer dress came in a rather heavy fabric characterised by coloured stripes with a motif that called to mind Dutch wax fabrics or a tapestry. Rather than designing an elaborate piece, Schiap opted for simplicity, adding two unusual notes, a sort of oblique collar that created a nice effect thanks to the lateral opening and one single pocket, highlighted by a vertical stripe cut from the same fabric the dress was made in. The matching scarf was a refined touch that gave the dress a stylish yet functional twist.
