It may be early April, but Spring has been rather erratic this year, with many of us being afflicted by snow, rain and other assorted and unpleasant wintry weather conditions.
Yet nothing can stop us from thinking about warm weather and maybe dream a bit also about the 2014 Spring/Summer season. A good way to start doing it is with these colourful yarns by Ilaria.
This Italian manufacturer has been producing yarns since the late '60s. During the latest edition of Pitti Filati, in January, Ilaria presented its S/S 14 collection with a stand inspired by a Spring garden that featured Barbie dolls (puppets, marionettes and dolls are enjoying a revival in fashion...) dressed in creations made with Ilaria yarns.
The highlights, though, weren't the Barbie dolls, but the long and short dresses made with yarns in natural materials such as silk or in blends characterised by a jersey-like consistency that guarantees knitwear designers the fluidity needed to create draped effects.
The Ilaria palette for the S/S 14 season includes luminous colours, going from aquamarine to bright pink, orange and lime punctuated by silver, gold or iridescent glints.
The yarns are ideal to create graphic elements, intarsia or jacquards motifs and layered effects, though lightness and transparency remain two prerogatives of these yarns. Shimmering and sparkling, their filigree consistency is desirable to make ultra feminine and romantic garments that call to mind the bright and vivid shades of sweet spring bouquets.
