Let's continue the interior design and fashion thread that started yesterday with a quick look at a feature published on the Italian edition of Grazia magazine in December 1959.
The article was part of a longer fashion and interior design report that explored Northern Europe and included a photoshoot made between the Arctic Circle, Sweden, Norway and Finland (as you may guess Elsa Haertter was among the photographers who worked on this reportage).
The feature announced that hand-printed cotton fabrics by Marimekko had finally arrived in Italy and were available at La Rinascente department stores. The fabrics mentioned in the article featured stylised motifs of flowers, leaves and figures and came in bright colours including red, orange, yellow, violet, green and brown, shades that were considered as exotically colourful for Italian tastes.
The article stated they were affordable and therefore perfect for different fashionable and stylish solutions, including using them as wallpaper, curtains or to renew sofas and armchairs.
