Yesterday's post closed with a reference to sound, so let's move from there for a brief post about creating soundscapes with the help of another installation, entitled “JEDAN:STO/100”.
This is the title of the installation featured inside the Serbian Pavilion at the 13th Venice International Architecture Biennale (until 25th November) and including a rectangular 22m x 5m white table that almost fills the entire space of the pavilion.
The huge table only leaves a narrow space that allows to walk, stand or sit around it. People can share the common table, chat around it, ponder in silence, work on it, observe what happens around it or create sound effects by touching its surface. In this way, movements and sounds fill the space and a banal sculpture becomes a reactive and interactive surface.
This installation made me think a lot about the possibilities of sound in garments, a theme I explored a few years ago in another post. I wonder if the time has come to experiment more with sonic fabrics or to create performative clothes or soundsuits that can somehow react to the environment surrounding us. Anyone up for the challenge?
