This is a very quick project that moves from a typical summer mood (today it's the height of summer in Italy), but also from two specific inspirations, Schiaparelli's 1938 insect necklace and an illustration by Franco Molteni taken from the 1955 Italian edition of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan.
The main material I employed for this project - transparent plastic (definitely less complicated compared to my previous project) - is borrowed from Schiap's necklace, while the starfish decorations are an attempt at recreating the necklace worn by the mermaid in Molteni's illustration.
This necklace is dedicated to all the readers who are on holiday and to a colleague of mine, scholar and Schiap fan Victoria Pass, who recently published an essay aebout Schiaparelli and punk (lovely subject - well done, Vicky!) entitled “Schiaparelli's Shock Tactics” (Please note: you can read Part II of the essay here).
