Sometimes I wish I were a millionaire not to live a life made of luxuries, but to be able to do all the projects I would like to do without worrying about the bills.
My dream of being a millionaire is usually painfully revamped everytime I pass in front of a bookshop and I spot something rare I can’t afford.
This is why it took me ten to fifteeen minutes to unglue myself from the window shop of Linea d’Acqua, an antiquarian bookshop based in Venice and specialised in rare essays, fiction and art books with an entire section entirely dedicated to Casanova.
It was indeed this rare edition of Les mémoires de Casanova from the early ‘30s with Auguste Leroux’s pochoir illustrations that attracted my attention and made me wish once again I were a millionaire.
This edition (in 10 volumes) is currently on sale at half the price, it was €2,400 and now it's "only" €1,200, a bargain considering that I have seen the same edition at over €3,000. Oh but to be a millionaire...
PS If you're into rare books and you happen to be in Venice don't miss Linea d’Acqua, it's in Calle della Mandola 3716/d, San Marco.
